'AS-YET-UNTITLED'... ctd

It appears Analog Man, the forthcoming album from Joe Walsh will, at the very least, come in a CD/DVD deluxe edition.

ELO 40th ANNIVERSARY

High marks for the 40th Anniversary edition of 'Electric Light Orchestra'...
Back when the BBC aired The Record Producers with Roy Wood in 2009, I hoped for a DVD like this.  Hearing 10538 Overture broken down into its individual parts was pretty excellent to hear as a fan.  Now, given this 40th Anniversary edition of 'ELO' along with the 2001 First Light Series and 2004's The Early Years, this album is about as deconstructed and comprehensive as any ELO LP will probably ever get.
Although there is no new unreleased session material, the DVD alone makes this set pretty satisfying. - Neatly packaged and nicely presented.  It's a new twist on an old standby - and that's one way (I believe) to keep fans on board and interested.

KINDA OT, FOR NOW: EARLY TAKES

In addition to the BluRay and DVD (USA) release of George Harrison - Living In The Material World documentary, Direct Current is now listing something from George Harrison entitled Early Takes Volume 1 also on the release schedule for May 1, same day as the BluRay and DVD release in America.

One can only guess this CD is the bonus CD that came with the Living In The Material World deluxe edition in the UK.  Time will tell.

We are intrigued at the title, though.  Depending on your interpretation of Volume 1, we are guessing (and frankly, hoping) there's at least one other volume in the cards.

A deluxe edition of Living In The Material World also appears to be forthcoming....

(Hat tip: JJR)

By the way, if you have an iPad and don't have the George Harrison Guitar Collection app, get it.  It's amazing.  The app links you to samples of his current digital catalog with one exception:  Just For Today.  It's the short background vocal clip used on his web site a few years ago.

LIVING IN THE MATERIAL WORLD ctd....

MusicTap also now reporting that the George Harrison documentary Living In The Material World from director Martin Scorsese will finally come to BluRay and DVD in America May 1 on Hip-O/Universal, more than 6 months following the DVD/BluRay release in the UK.  If I live to be 100, I'll never understand why they did it this way, but there you have it.

'AS-YET-UNTITLED'...

Musictap is reporting that an 'as-yet-untitled' album from Joe Walsh is on the schedule for June 5 on Fantasy Records.

Direct Current also lists the release for June 5 - and says it's Analog Man.

ELO-40 PROMOs

It appears the advance promos for the 40th Anniversary edition of 'Electric Light Orchestra' have been unleashed.  UK release day for the real thing comes 12 March 2012 on CD/DVD and vinyl.
Meanwhile, Spin CDs is saying the album has been remastered again...
ELO’s eponymous debut album has been painstakingly remastered for its 40th Anniversary and expanded with over two hours of bonus material. Now spanning a CD/DVD double, the album includes the original Quad mix in DTS 96kHz/24 bit 4.1 surround sound, the original stereo master in high-resolution 96kHz/24 bit PCM, the original ‘10538 Overture’ promo film and extensive liner notes charting the history of the release.
If there's a substantial improvement over the 2001 edition, I will be surprised... unless they are just referring to the DVD...

COMING SOON: A TRIBUTE TO McCARTNEY

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that a Paul McCartney tribute disc is now in the works, and that Jeff Lynne is contributing to it.  No timeline for a release yet, but the project may also include a video featuring 'sessions-in-progress' with some of the participants which include Billy Joel, Brian Wilson, B.B. King and The Cure...

It sounds like we're a ways out from this one, but stay tuned nonetheless...

ELSEWHERE IN THE HOUSE OF WILBURY...

While things at Camp Jeff are still 'quiet', some other interesting items have just been announced - not the least of which, a George Harrison app.  George Harrison - The Guitar Collection will be available starting February 23 on iTunes.  For $9.99, you can scroll through pictures of George Harrison's private guitar collection, watch related videos and hear vintage Harrison tracks - all on an iPad.  Amazing idea.

Also coming up, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers 2012 tour - now with Regina Spektor on the bill for 8 dates.  Ms. Spektor will have a new album this year called What We Saw From The Cheap Seats.

NEW 40TH ANNIVERSARY EDITIONS?

HMV Japan has a few new listings of note.

First, out on 24 January 2012, is reissues of Discovery & A New World Record.  They just appear, at this point, to be straight up re-issues of the brilliant card sleeve editions from a few years ago.
But more interestingly, two 40th Anniversary editions of Electric Light Orchestra (aka No Answer) - one on vinyl, the other a two disc set featuring CD and DVD - are on the docket for 27 February 2012 release.

The listing suggests these releases are European imports.  There's no other info on these right now, we'll keep you posted.

Thought lost for over 30 years, the master tapes from The Move’s shows at the Fillmore West were saved by Carl Wayne but suffered technical problems & could not be released. Thanks to advances in studio technology, Carl began restoring the tapes in 2003. Sadly Carl died in 2004 & was never able to complete the live album he believed would show how incredible The Move was as a live band. Now, with the full cooperation & permission of his wife, Sue Wayne, the tapes have been painstakingly restored, remastered & released in memory of The Move’s dynamic front man & lead singer.
100 minutes of previously unreleased Move live magic recorded at San Francisco’s Fillmore West.
