LONG WAVE, THE NEW ALBUM

The news is slowly starting to break open.  HMV Japan lists what appears to be the new solo album from Jeff Lynne.  The title: Long Wave.  Release date for the SHM-CD version is 26 September 2012 in Japan.

Amazon Germany now listing Long Wave for CD and yes, vinyl on 3 October 2012...

They are also listing an ELO title called Mr. Blue Sky: The Very Best of Electric Light Orchestra also for 26 September 2012 also in Japan.  This appears to be a collection of ELO hits re-recorded by Jeff Lynne.

Same thing with Amazon Germany: Mr. Blue Sky is listed for CD and vinyl.

Release dates will presumably vary by country... but wait 'til you hear about Long Wave... There is a twist. When we get an official announcement, we'll link it ASAP.

New Wave? Or Long Wave? But yeah, cautiously optimistic here. Let's hope it's true.

Thanks, Chippa... bad typing...

there is a twist ?

don't keep us in suspenders .. spill the beans .. please : )

Anonymous said...

OK, I guess the twist is that the album surprisingly consists of old standards like "Smile" and "At Last".

Much like the albums released by McCartney and Glenn Frey earlier this year.

Ben said...

Wait, the entire album is standards? No original tunes? :/

Anonymous said...

He's written new songs, so I don't think the album is all standards.

Long Wave as in Radio Waves.

Been waiting for this for the longest time.

Laura Lynne is Jerry's AKA Anonymous' source!

Bladerunner said...

It would be better if the twist was 2 CD's. One of standards, the other new songs. Dream On.

A 3 year wait for an old standards cover CD, I call bullshit!

Don't get all up in arms until we find out what's up. God, some of you people are like giant babies.

The final/last album by Phil Collins in 2010 was also like Paul McCartney and Glenn Frey, then also Rod Stewart! >:-(

Rick Vendl is butthurt, I see

Anonymous said...

Hey Nick, how do ya know that it's Rick Vendl?

I pray for new material. Dont want to see another compilation and I dont get this re-recording of all these great songs. Going to listen to Eldorado......bye!

Mmmmm. Have to wait and see what this is all about. Personally, I've no objection to the odd cover version on any new album - enjoyed the covers on "Armchair Theatre", but a new album composed entirely of covers, or with the odd new track would be a dissapointment in my book.

JEFF HAS ABOUT 6 NEW RELEASES IN THE NEXT 6 MONTHS, I THINK SOMETHING FOR EVERYBODY.ITS GOING TO BE A GREAT TIME FOR JEFF LYNNE/ELO FANS

Jerry said...

With this, the emphasis will be (or at least it should be) more on this record-making. I think it's a great move.

Anonymous said...

Jerry, that first part of your last comment makes absolutely no sense at all!

Jerry said...

Well, I don't think everyone views him as a record maker. Some see him as just a performer. If they do that, they tend sometimes not to appreciate the craft behind the recording.

Anonymous said...

Well it sure as hell doesn't take Jeff Lynne recording a standards covers album to prove that, in fact I would say the exact opposite!

Anonymous said...

A dvd/blueray of Jeff working on the album?

Anonymous said...

Hey Nick, there are a lot of other fans who are upset by this news besides Rick Vendl!

Unknown said...

there's a rumour that "long wave" will in a 2-disc version: featuring the 1995 unreleased solo album he recorded for warner brothers...

Anonymous said...

Unknown,

Do ya have an internet link to that rumor?

Bladerunner dreamt that might be the case in his comment above, God I hope so!

8-)

Unknown said...

no, not an internet rumour (until now) - can't say who told me, sorry.

if you do a quick search on the ASCAP website (http://www.ascap.com/Home/ace-title-search/index.aspx) you will see that our Jeff has registered only a couple of songs that appear to be new. Maybe their database is not up to date, maybe he hasn't registered all songs yet - but anyway it seems odd to me and could be a sign that many of the "new" songs are just re-recordings, covers, standards, classics - call it whatever you want...:-(

You know, guys? Whatever is released, Jeff Lynne has recorded a new solo album. I for one am very excited. Plus, I doubt it's gonna be ALL covers. People are blowing this out of proportion. Whatever is released, I can't wait to hear it! :)

Wise words Ben, i think the new album will be all new stuff, plus more to follow, he did an interview a few years back saying he was working on 70 plus songs, looks like the 11 year wait for new songs will be met with an avalanche of CDs and DVDs. and hopefully a tour :-)....HAPPY DAYS.

Jeff has a great unique voice and can sing as well as ever. If it is covers then I really liked 'words of love' and who can forget his version of Del Shannon's 'Runaway' ? He also got praise for 'September Song' and 'Stormy Weather' on 'Armchair Theatre'. Either way, I don't expect to be disappointed!

I hope it's an album of new material, 11 years is a long wait if it's only gonna be a covers album that he could have knocked out in 6 months !! Hopefully the surprise is a World Tour which is long overdue !

Perhaps it is something like World Party's Arkeology album? 5 cds of new songs and covers. Now that I could live with.

Then again The Beautiful Souths Golddiggas album of covers, which include a unique version of Living' Thing was an enjoyable and successful album

elobeatlesforever.blogspot.com, appears to have the album cover and track listing for 'Long Wave' from a norwegian site CDON.com - If correct this does appear to be a covers album. Thinking there will be a album of originals to follow later.

elobeatlesforever.blogspot.com has what appears to be the album cover and track listing for 'Long Wave'. If correct does seem to be a collection of covers. Thinking (and hoping) there will be another album of originals to follow this possibly with a reissue of Armchair Theatre and/or Zoom.

If it´s a cover album, do you know the listed songs?

I have waited 11 years for some new material. We get news of it at last and it is an album of covers and an album of re recordings. This is one of the biggest anticlimaxes of my life I hope its not true.
